Overcome Speaking Anxiety
Nervousness is common. The goal is not to erase every sign of it but to make the speech easier to start and easier to continue.
Practice the beginning
The first 20–30 seconds often carry the most pressure.
Knowing how you will start reduces uncertainty.
Give your attention a job
Focus on explaining the next idea instead of monitoring your nerves.
Communication is a more useful target than “looking confident.”
Use your breathing
A slow exhale before speaking can reduce the urge to rush into the first sentence.
Release tension in the shoulders and jaw.
Example
Replace “Everyone can see I’m nervous” with “My job for the next ten seconds is to explain why this matters.”
Common mistake
Waiting to feel completely confident before practicing under realistic conditions.
Try this
Practice only your opening five times. Before each attempt, exhale slowly and wait one beat.
Keep in mind
Confidence often arrives after you begin.
